Ajay Ponna Venkatesh is a co-founder at Scapic, a company that is building the foundations of the next iteration of the internet, broadly called the Immersive web. He is passionate about building products of value, especially in emerging and deep tech. With close to 5 years of experience in the Research Team of Cisco in the Video domain and being one of the first two developers at US-based VR startup Gridraster Inc, he has hands-on experience in working on emerging technologies and scaling a tech startup. Ajay has a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore. He also has an Associate's degree in PCME - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electronics from Sadvidya Composite PU College and completed his high school education from Sadvidya High School. As a co-founder of Scapic, Ajay is responsible for technology, product management, operations, and finance. The Scapic platform provides a suite of dead simple tools needed for anybody to build their own experiences in VR/AR in a matter of minutes. This makes the opportunity a significant one. As a cloud-based tool, creating, sharing, and viewing these experiences is incredibly simple. At Gridraster, Ajay was a senior developer and worked on a wide range of technologies to support product development ranging from H.264 encoding and decoding, DirectX and OpenGL graphics rendering, Unity game engine, and open-source applications like OBS, Google Cardboard (Daydream), OpenPeer, and WebRTC. He was responsible for planning, developing, and executing the deliverables required in a rapidly changing typical start-up scenario with high quality, finesse, and quick turnaround time. At Cisco Video Technologies India Pvt. Ltd., Ajay was a Research and Development Engineer and a key member of the R&D team at Cisco’s Video (Set-top-box) Business Unit. He has experience in Agile Development methodology and has worked on numerous projects, including the Open Streaming project, EPG Reload, integrating QT on ARM box, developing Profiler tools, and implementing a PoC to explore the possibility of blending IoT with STB architecture. Ajay is a research scientist with experience in mobile, product management, web, Java, CI/CD, integration, and infra. He has 12.28 years of relevant experience and is passionate about democratizing content creation in AR & VR.
